"Hashimoto-kun!"

"Wh-wh-what?" His head snapped up, hitting something hard. "Ow! Oww!"

His monitor toppled toward the floor. Immediately Mamoru reached out, grabbing hold. It wobbled back and forth in his hands before coming back under control. Cords dangled from the back. He wheezed. Man, his head hurt. Torn between where to rub, Mamoru floundered in his chair.

"Hashimoto-kun." Ueda loomed over him. "Were you sleeping?"

"I, uh, was checking the cables. My screen was acting all blinky."

"Blinky?"

"Hai."

That earned him a roll of the eyes. "Listen, I have unfortunate news."

"Ueda-san?"

"Our deal with Kita Architecture Firm has been put on hold." His boss's shoulders slumped and he gave a heavy sigh. "Ikeda-san passed away last night. Heart attack."

"I heard."

"Really?"

No, Mamoru escorted him across the bridge. "There's a junior partner at Kita. We may want to get in contact with him."

"Sorry?"

"I think I can save this deal for everyone," Mamoru replied, stifling a yawn. So tired. All night long he lay next to Finni, petting him, putting his fingers through Finni's hair, watching him breathe.

A little creepy, yeah, but…well, Finni hadn't run. The shock still resonated within him. Made him want…more, and the even more shocking realization that Finni possibly wanted him too, well yeah, that shook him hard.

"Hashimoto-kun?" Ueda waved a hand in front of his face.

"Sorry."

"Girl problems?" Ueda gave him a wink. "Or you getting lucky with the girls? Careful you don't overdo it, okay? We don't want it interfering with your work. Now, what were you saying about saving the deal?"

"Right. Um, there is a junior partner Ikeda-san trusted with his designs. Nakano-san." Mamoru put the monitor back on his desk and started connecting the cables. "I think we'll find he has what everyone needs to get the job done. Ikeda-san would want his building finished."

"Nakano-san?"

"Mmmhmm," Mamoru agreed, turning everything back on. "Let me pull up some designs and show you. We might need to convince the senior partners he can do the job. But Ikeda-san told me himself that he had faith in Nakano-san's future as an architect."

There was a pause. Ueda eyed him, his hands clasped behind his back. "You never cease to surprise me, Hashimoto-kun. You have this Nakano-san's information?"

"Hai."

"Contact him, get a meeting set up as soon as possible."

"Hai."

"And Hashimoto-kun."

"Bucho?"

"Try to stay awake."

Somehow, yeah. "Hai."

"It's gonna be a late night." He clapped Mamoru on the shoulder and walked away.

Oh. Oh no. Mamoru couldn't stay, not tonight. "Bucho!"

Ueda stopped, giving Mamoru a curious look. "Nani?"

"About tonight."

"Hai?"

"It's Christmas Eve." He had made a promise, one he found he wanted to keep more than anything.

"Ha!" Ueda slapped his leg. "So you do have someone."

"So, if I—"

His boss laughed, one finger wagging in his direction. "I suggest you finish quickly, then."

Right, back to the grind. Mamoru shook his mouse and the screen popped back on, building schematics looming up in front of him. More than anything he wanted to get home, find Finni in the kitchen, and see what happened next. He sighed.
